More than any other individual, Danish writer HANS CHRISTIAN  ANDERSEN (1805 - 1875) is reponsible for the creation of the modern children's stories. Working out of diverse traditions such as folk tales & the didactic juvenile tracts of his era, H. C. ANDERSEN fashioned a distinctive literary type of fairy tale which earned him tremendous popularity during his lifetime & which continues to please reader of all ages.

2nd April 2005 is Hans Christian Andersen's birthday and, the year 2005 have been declared the year of this great Danish writer & poet and to mark his 200 year's birthday, world wide celebrations are being held.
